Program Description:
RIO’s Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS) center is a day program providing a variety of health, therapeutic, and social services designed to serve the specialized needs of neurologically and physically challenged adults.
Program Objectives:
The primary objectives of the program are to restore or maintain optimal capacity for self-care, and to delay or prevent premature institutionalization.
The program stresses partnership with the participant, the family, the physician, and the community in working towards maintaining one’s optimal capacity.
Rates and Funding Information:
Methods of payment for Community-Based Adult Services include CalOptima, Regional Center of Orange County, and private pay. The CBAS rate is $83.50 per regular day, and $87.50 per assessment day.
Scope of Services:
A Multidisciplinary team of health professionals conducts a comprehensive assessment of each participant to determine which CBAS services fulfill the individual’s specific health and social needs. The individualized plan of care may include any of the following:
  • Nursing and Social Services
  • Dietary Consultation
  • Recreation and Social Activities
  • Pharmacy Consultation
  • Social and Recreational Activities
  • Physical Exercise
  • Cognitive Training
  • Individual and Group Counseling for Participants and Family Members
  • Communication Skill Development
  • Socialization and Peer Support Groups
  • Training in Activities of Daily Living
  • Hot Lunch and Snack Program
Eligibility Criteria:
The RIO Community Based Adult Services Program is designed for adults experiencing a decrease in functioning primarily due to a brain injury, stroke, dementia, or other neurological condition.
  • A medical condition requiring treatment or rehabilitation prescribed by a physician
  • Physical and/or cognitive impairments that limit activities of daily living
  • A high potential for further deterioration and possible institutionalization if Community-Based Adult Services were not availabl
Program Hours:
  • Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Program is closed on major holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year’s
