The RIO Aquatics Department offers a variety of classes for adults 18 and older with and without disabilities. We offer general water exercise programs as well as specialized classes for people with arthritis, who have suffered from a stroke or head injury, have Fibromyalgia or other ailments that may hinder mobility. All classes are conducted by experienced, trained certified Instructors. The Aquatics Department also offers pool parties! Click on the following link for details: “Host a Pool Party!”
Water Exercise (WEP)
Monday and Wednesday: 8:30 am – 9:15 am (Low/Medium Intensity)
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 8:30 am – 9:00 am (Low/Medium Intensity)
Tuesday and Thursday: 1:15 pm – 1:45 pm (Low Intensity)
A general conditioning pool exercise program designed for individuals, who have various conditions, which might hinder their range of motion, as well as for those interested in general exercise. Each session is taught by experienced instructors. This is a 30 minute (*except where noted) instructor led class. 15 minutes is set aside at the start and end of each class for independent warm up and cool down.
Tuesday and Thursday: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm and 7:15 pm – 8:00 pm (Medium/High Intensity)
Monday and Wednesday: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm (Medium/High Intensity)
Friday: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (Medium/High Intensity)
Saturday: 7:45 am – 8:45 am (Medium/High Intensity)
This water exercise program offers full-body cardio for participants of all fitness levels and is designed to help sustain and improve joint mobility, tone muscles, and improve endurance levels in a fun, supportive class environment. This class is 60 minutes instructor led.
Independent Exercise (IND):
Monday and Wednesday: 7:00 am – 8:30 am, 10:30 am – 11:45 am and 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Tuesday and Thursday: 7:00 am – 8:30 am, 9:00 am – 10:30 am and 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Friday: 7:00 am – 8:30 am, 10:30 am – 11:45 am and 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Saturday: 9:00 am – 10:00 am
A water exercise program designed for individuals who wish to exercise independently. This program is for individuals who may have various conditions, which may hinder their range of motion, have specified exercises assigned from a physician as well as for those interested in general aquatic exercises.
Tuesday and Thursday: 10:30 am – 11:15 am (Medium/High Intensity)
This fun, fast paced, body sculpting workout is all about feeling the music, moving to the beat, letting go and having a great time. All while enjoying the benefits of water resistance. Great for both new and long term participants.
Tuesday and Thursday: 11:30 am – 12:45 pm (Low Intensity/Own Pace)
A water exercise, pain management, and relaxation class developed exclusively for individuals diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Enrollment in this class includes the use of the Independent exercise times, in addition to the scheduled Tuesday/Thursday structured class times.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 10:00 am – 10:30 am (Low Intensity/Own Pace)
A group water exercise program geared for individuals recovering from a stroke, head injuries, or other brain injuries resulting in hemiparesis or hemiplegia. Enrollment in this class includes the use of the Independent Exercise times.
Family Swim (FS):
Monday and Wednesday: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Family-Swim is designed for parents and their children to enjoy exercising and swimming together. All children under the age of 6 must be accompanies by an adult in the water. Adults should be no further than one arm’s length away from children or other non-swimming family members.
A water exercise program designed with children in mind. A 45-minute high energy session focusing on the 5 components of physical fitness; exclusively for youth under the age of 12. Participants must be 5 years of age prior to enrollment and must meet all aquatic program eligibility requirements. Swimming skills not required. This is an inclusive program for people with and without special needs.

Registration Fee: $25.00 per person (Family Swim excluded)
All Classes except Family Swim: $55.00 per month; $40.00 book of 5 vouchers; $10.00 per session
Family Swim: $60.00 per month, per family; $10.00 per session, per family
Must be at least 18 years of age, with exception of Family Swim and Splashercise programs.
Must be independent in dressing, entry and exit of the pool, able to stand alone in the pool, or bring an attendant/caregiver to assist. There are parallel bars and a wheelchair lift.
Must have the ability to follow instructor’s directions.
Must be able to tolerate exercise in 90-92 degree water.
All classes are recreation based and prescriptions are not required for participation.
Attendants and/or caregivers are required to complete a caregiver form and must be prepared to enter the water as needed.
